Pond Filtration
Getting the right filtration is very important other wise you won’t get satisfactory results.
To calculate the type of filtration needed you need to decide on the following:-
Work out the required turnover volume of water in the pond:
For Koi or heavily stocked pond - once every hour
For moderately light stock density - every 1 to 2 hours
Add 25% water volume if pond is in full sun.
Add 25% water volume if pond is less than 2ft deep.
Example: If you have a 1000 gallon heavily stock pond in full sunlight you will need filtration to handle 1250 gallons per hour.
With all this in mind choosing your filtration should be far easier. It is then down to you to choose a filter with the capacity you require and how you want the filter to look or to be hidden or how easy it is to maintain – it’s all down to personal choice.
